Dumelo Dodging Hajia Nasira in Parliament after Fans Suggest He Likes Her

Ghana’s Parliament has become the setting for a primary school romance saga, with John Dumelo avoiding Hajia Nasira Afrah after fans turned a harmless compliment into a full-blown love story. Observers have noted Dumelo’s tactical seat changes, avoiding sitting within two rows of Hajia, much like a 10-year-old schoolboy avoiding his desk partner after classmates tease him for liking her. "If this keeps up," a fellow MP joked, "we might see him wearing a fake mustache in Parliament just to blend in."

The drama began when Dumelo praised Hajia Nasira’s Made-in-Ghana outfit at their swearing-in ceremony. Social media users, never ones to miss an opportunity, quickly took the compliment several steps further, deciding that the next logical step was for the two MPs to get married, build a house and a farm in the Sekyere Afram Plains, and raise a sprawling family of 10 kids named after constituencies. "John Dumelo’s compliment was clearly Step 1," joked one user.

While Hajia Nasira has taken the chaos in good stride, gracefully ignoring the matchmaking frenzy, the saga has reportedly devolved into a nasty fight between Dumelo and his wife at home and has left Dumelo now second-guessing his compliments, with insiders saying he now opts for vague phrases like "Nice… weather we’re having, Honourable." Meanwhile, Speaker Alban Bagbin, sensing the awkwardness of the situation himself, is expected to officially assign the two lovebirds opposite corner seats in the chamber to keep Parliament focused.

Fans are upbeat and are already designing campaign posters for 2028: "John and Hajia—Love and Leadership for All."
