Gov't to Set Aside Last Friday of Every Month for National Game of Ludu (Home Kick Included)

President Mahama, in a heartfelt throwback to his golden childhood days, has officially declared the last Friday of every month as National Recreation Day, headlined by a gargantuan, all-Ghana game of Ludu — Home Kick and heartbreak included, of course. The venue? None other than the abandoned plot once promised to the National Cathedral, a space now perfectly suited for public dice disputes. Mahama, who admits his best childhood memories involve slamming opponents back to square one, says this monthly ritual will unite the nation in ways no policy document ever could.

Under the supervision of the newly minted Ministry of Sports & Recreation (which is still trying to find its office keys), the game, set to feature 33 million players – minus Jehovah's Witnesses – will span from the Cathedral foundations all the way to Circle, with each region occupying a section of the oversized Ludu board. In case of rain, the board will be redrawn inside the Jubilee House. According to Mahama, this initiative, led by nostalgia specialist Kofi Adams, is part of his grand grassroots sports transformation — a clever strategy to identify future Olympians.

While announcing the plan in his 2025 State of the Nation Address, Mahama linked the game to his broader efforts to revive the nation’s competitive spirit — something the Black Stars mislaid somewhere between their last group stage exit and a suspiciously large per diem request.

Mahama insists that whether you win, lose or get kicked out by a seven-year-old from Nima, the only thing that matters is playing — because in a country where the economy’s already doing Home Kick on everyone’s plans, we might as well embrace it together.
